Most if not all who are planning to visit beautiful California imagine that it is a hot environment and therefore light clothing for a vacation here will do. This is actually true for Southern California where you can wear a shirt in December during the day and go out surfing in a different region.
Contrary to this, the climate elsewhere within California is quite temperate and it might be interesting to find a warm kind of environment in such areas; quite different from what you had imagined. Hence, it will be prudent to dress appropriately when visiting, for you to be comfortable whatever location you wish to explore within the state.
You will also need some rain gear if you are planning to tour the mountains within this state, though you will rarely use these in other regions within California. The other thing worth noting is that there are numerous trails to visit around here as well as parks such as the King’s Canyon and the Yosemite.
A backpack will come in handy in this case if you are planning a backcountry travel. Now lets’ look at what you will need to pack when visiting various regions within California depending on the weather. If you are visiting areas such as Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach among others in summer, here is a characteristic example of what you will need to pack.
- A pair of bermudas or shorts.
- A pair of evening shoes.
- 3 to 4 cotton t-shirts or tank tops.
- A pair of jeans.
- A bathing suit.
- A sweater or cardigan just to be safe in case it gets chilly.
- A little black dress which you can either use for day or evening events.
- A pair of evening shoes.
- A pair of sandals
- 2 pyjamas or nightgowns.
- For other regions within California, here is what you may need to add as you pack.
San Fransisco – this is an area that experiences fog and change in weather may be unpredictable to some extent. Hence, layers, a fleece sweater or pullover and comfortable shoes will be appropriate.
Los Angeles – casual wear is a norm here and mostly individuals are dressed in this manner except for some occasions such as weddings or funerals, in which case individuals finally put on ties.
San Diego – if you are planning to visit this destination between May and June, the weather here is characterized by cloudy mornings and high temperatures starting noon or 1p.m. Packing some sunscreen will be a great idea. Sunglasses will come in handy too since there are many white buildings around and passing by them or viewing them when the sun is hot can be quite uncomfortable.
Anaheim – in May this place can be damp and cool therefore it is advisable to put on something warm in addition to comfortable shoes, since you might walk a lot at Anaheim.
Sacramento – pack some sunscreen and bring a hat too if you are visiting in summer. The dress code is mostly casual such as shorts and t-shirts since it gets hot here.
Monterey – a wet suit will be important if you will be spending a lot of time in the water. During summer, there is fog that causes temperatures to drop. Therefore, if this is the place you intend to visit, a jacket and layers will be necessary.
Santa Monica – with the Pacific Ocean in close vicinity, this area experiences chilly weather and for this reason, you will need to dress warmly.
Long Beach – if you are coming in around July, remember to pack a long sleeve top or sweater. The other alternative will be a light jacket and this is the kind of attire you need to have in the evenings.
This insight is meant to help you understand what to expect as far as the weather is concerned, as you plan to visit some of the destinations in California. In turn, you will be able to pack what you need wisely and better still, enjoy your stay there.
